Marag Mhaduinn
Last week was very exciting for people who are fond of baking as the television show The Great British Bake Off returns for another series!
There are a few recipes on the DASG website, and I wrote about Bonnach Brìghde last Easter. Marag Mhaduinn is our topic this week, and I’m sure that Mary Berry wouldn’t be too happy if somebody had a go at making a pudding like this in the Bake Off tent!
The follwing recipice originates from Garrynamonie, South Uist:
“oatmeal, flour, onions, lard, salt and pepper. Mixed together and baked in a cake tin. Left to cool till morning, then fried and eaten with the usual breakfast.”
The recipe for snàil marag was collected in Arnol on the Isle of Lewis, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be as tasty as marag mhaduinn... click the link if you are feeling brave enough and have a strong stomach!
Have you ever eaten marag mhaduinn or do you have a different way of making it?
As usual, why don’t you let us know through Facebook or Twitter.
