Peter Angus Rankin | Peadar Alasdair Dhonnchaidh Mhóir was born and raised in the Gaelic community of Port Bàn, Inverness County. A descendant of settlers from Lochaber, he was the son of Sandy (Sandaidh Dhonnchaidh) and Jessie Rankin. His brother, Father Donald, was a well-known Gaelic singer and parish priest in Creignish.
Peter worked as a fisherman, a miner, and on the highway. He married Jessie (née Campbell) of Hillsdale, and together they built a life in Troy, Inverness County, where they raised their three children: Peter, John, and Danny.
Peter had a special way of telling stories that drew listeners in, with a rich repertoire of funny, local anecdotes that never failed to entertain. He was known for his infectious sense of fun, always sporting a smile and a laugh that could light up any room.
