Dan Murdock Patterson

Dan Murdock Patterson was born on January 21, 1909, in East Boularderie. His ancestors hailed from the Isle of Coll and were granted land in East Boularderie in 1820, where he lived his entire life.
Dan Murdock was the son of Florence Patterson, who later remarried and moved to the United States, leaving him and his sister Hazel in the care of their grandmother, Jessie Patterson. Jessie, a respected midwife, was best known by her Gaelic name, Seana.
Dan Murdock married Caroline Cameron Gillis, and together they raised two sons, Donnie and John. He worked as a farmer and carpenter, building homes for the British Canadian Co-op in Sydney Mines and in communities across Cape Breton, including West Bay and Boularderie.
A devoted member of the Presbyterian Church in Boularderie, he was known for his singing and frequently attended milling frolics. Dan Murdock is fondly remembered as an honest, trustworthy, and highly regarded member of his community. He generously gave his time as a volunteer, especially when someone needed carpentry work, always willing to lend a helping hand.
He passed away on April 15, 1992.
