Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography
Norman MacLean was born in 1898 to Peter Rory MacLean and Flora Gillis of MacKinnon’s Harbour, Cape Breton. Descended from settlers from the Isle of Barra, Norman deeply cherished his Gaelic roots. Known for his love of singing and storytelling, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.
For much of his life, Norman resided in the old family home in Rear Ottawa Brook. In the 1970s, he and his family relocated to Barra Glen, where he maintained a small farm with horses, cows, and sheep. He also worked at the Little Narrows Gypsum Plant, where he was a valued employee.
Norman married Margaret Marsh of Reserve Mines, and together they raised a family of thirteen. He passed away in 1989 and is buried in MacKinnon’s Harbour Cemetery.
