Roddie MacInnis
Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography
Roderick Daniel "Roddie Beag" MacInnis (August 24, 1903-September 10, 1995) was born and raised in Glendale, Inverness County, the son of Angus MacInnis and Peggy MacIsaac. His MacInnis ancestors hailed from Moidart, Scotland.
Roddie married Matilda (Tilly) Anne Miller in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, where they built a life together. Four of their children were born in Ontario, and after moving back home to Glendale, they welcomed an adopted child into their family. In Ontario, Roddie worked in the mines before the family eventually returned home to Glendale. Back in Cape Breton, he and Tilly ran a farm, and Roddie worked in the woods.
Roddie was well known in the area for singing, and came from a lineage rich in Gaelic tradition—his great-grandaunt was the noted songmaker Sìne Henny. Roddie's great grandson, Roddie Donnie MacInnis, is a fiddler, and carries on in his footsteps singing Gaelic songs.
