Malcolm Archibald MacDonald | Gilleasbuig mac Ruairidh Chaluim Iain, known locally as Archie Rory, was born February 10, 1902 at Head Lake Ainslie. His parents were Roderick ‘Rory’ Laughlin MacDonald of ‘The Mullach’, Whycocomagh Mountain, and Mary Catherine Gillies MacDonald of Skye Glen.
Archie came from a large family and stayed on the homestead to help his parents. He had different jobs over his career including fish warden and working on the highways. He was a good friend of local singer Neil ‘The King’ MacKinnon. Archie was granted the title of ‘The Mayor of Head Lake’, as appointed by Neil.
Archie took great joy in life and had a good sense of humour. He was generous and always willing to help. He loved ‘Scotch’ music, speaking and singing in Gaelic, smoking his pipe, and was a big fan of hockey. He passed away at home on May 18, 1980.
