John D. "Jack" MacAskill was born January 12, 1905 in Framboise Intervale, Richmond County. He was the son of Daniel J. MacAskill of Loch Lomond and Sarah C. Strachan of Framboise. His ancestors were emigrants from the Isle of Harris.

He married Florence (Flo) Laura Dreaiche and they had two daughters. Jack worked at the Stirling Mine.

Jack died on June 17, 1987 and is buried in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Framboise.
