Date Of Language Notes[Note added 13/4/18:] This is the second collection of the poetry of Dòmhnall nan Òran (1787-1872), the first collection, 'Orain Nuadh Ghaeleach [sic]', was published in 1811. The poems and songs in the later 1872 collection may have been composed in the mid 19th century date range (1829-1870), e.g. 'Rann do dh'Èildearan an Lòin Mhòir' is a satire on elders for refusing to baptise one of his children, and we know that MacLeod married in 1839 (Meg Bateman and Anne Loughran, Bàird Ghleann Dail (2014), p. xlviii). However, the date of creation of the other poems is not certain.
