Date Of Language NotesFasti ecclesiae scoticanae, Vol. 7 (1928), pp 66-67, shows that John Macalister (born 1789) served as a minister in the Church of Scotland and latterly in the Free Church from 1824 until his death in 1844. His Gaelic and English sermons were compiled and published later in 1896. The publication does not state explicitly when the sermons were written. We can infer from Macalister's time as minister that they could have been composed in both early and mid 19th century periods.
