| Geographical Origins Notes | [Geographical origin updated 11/4/18]. In the title of this work the author, 'HUISTEAN FRISEAL', is described as being 'AN SGIRE URRADH', i.e. Urray parish which lay in both Ross-shire and partly in Inverness-shire. However, the titles of other works by the same author in Typographia Scoto-Gadelica (1915, p. 128) elaborate that he was 'o Sgire Chnuic-Muire', and elsewhere, 'Huistean Friseal, a bha chomhnuidh ann an Sgireachd Chnuic-Mhuire, ach a nis ann an Sgireachd Urra'. From the information here, it appears that he was originally from Cnoc Mhoire, or Kirkhill parish in east Inverness-shire, and that he subsequently moved to the neighbouring Urray parish. Those mentioned in his elegies tend to confirm this geographical location. |
