Catherine Ann “Katie” Rogers was born on June 30, 1892, in Birch Plain to Norman MacLeod and Annie Morrison, whose ancestors came from Scalpay, Harris. She married William Henry Rogers of Bird Island, Newfoundland, and together they lived in New Haven, Neil’s Harbour, where they raised six children and also brought up a grandson.Katie came from a highly musical family known for their Gaelic singing. Her brother, Malcolm Angus MacLeod, is also featured in the Cape Breton Folklore Collection. She passed away on June 20, 1984, and is buried at St. Peter’s Presbyterian Cemetery, Neil’s Harbour.
