Doilidh Ratchford (NicNìll)

Mary E. “Dolly” Ratchford MacNeil was a Gaelic singer from Iona, Nova Scotia, and the daughter of John Ratchford and Mary Ann MacNeil. She was raised by Stephen S. and Kathleen “Katie” Dunn MacNeil, who lived on the Dunn Road in Rear Iona. Dolly married Hugh Benedict MacNeil, and together they had two daughters: Hughena, who married Mickey John H. MacNeil, and Kathleen Heather.

Dolly was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 124, in Iona. She worked at the takeout counter at the local canteen and was known for her dedication to caring for the elderly. She was a member of St. Columba Parish. Dolly passed away on October 25, 2007 and is buried at Saint Columba Cemetery, Iona.
