Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography

Christina Anne “Christie” MacNeil was the daughter of Johnny John Neil MacKenzie of Benacadie West and Catherine “Katie” (Cameron) of Margaree. She married Malcolm J. MacNeil of Benacadie Pond, and together they raised a family of nine children.

A devoted homemaker, Christie skillfully balanced the demands of family life with her love of social gatherings, especially playing cards. She was a lifelong member of St. Barra Church in Christmas Island.

Christie came from a culturally rich family. Her brother, Dan MacKenzie, is also featured in the Cape Breton Folklore Collection. Both Christie and Dan had a passion for singing and would often sing together at home when friends and family gathered, keeping the tradition of Gaelic music alive in their community.
