Dougall MacLellan

Known in English as “the Left-Handed Fiddler,” Dougall MacLellan was born on July 22, 1916, in Southwest Margaree, Inverness County. He was the son of Angus R. MacLellan (son of Ranald and Ann MacLellan) of Southwest Margaree, and Mary Flora Gillis (daughter of John and Flora Gillis) of Upper Margaree. Dougall’s ancestors hailed from Morar, Scotland.In his younger years, Dougall played the fiddle at school dances in Dunvegan, earning a reputation as a talented musician. He lived in Southwest Margaree throughout his life, working a variety of labor jobs while staying connected to his Gaelic roots.
Dougall passed away around 1997 and is buried in the MacDougall Cemetery in Gillisdale.
