Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography
Donald MacLeod was from New Boston, Cape Breton County, and came from a proud line of Gaelic speakers with ancestral roots in the Isle of Lewis. He was the son of tradition bearer Roddy MacLeod (Ruairidh Aonghais Dhòmhnaill Uilleim) and Louise (née Wilberham), a war bride known for her considerable skill as a step dancer.
From a young age, Donald showed a keen interest in Gaelic song—a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. His repertoire included many songs and compositions passed down from the Old Country, reflecting his deep appreciation for Gaelic tradition and heritage.
Donald’s brother, Allan MacLeod, is also featured in the Cape Breton Folklore Collection.
