Alec MacLean | Alasdair Uilleim Shandaidh Uilleim was born December 17, 1913 at MacKenzie Point in West Bay, Inverness County. A descendant of settlers from the Isle of Lewis who arrived in 1832, Alec was the son of Billy and Mary Bessie (Campbell) MacLean. William and Mary Bessie raised seven children—three daughters and four sons.Alec married Josephine MacDonald, a schoolteacher from Glenora, West Bay. Together, they had three sons: Sandy, Glen, and Jamie. A farmer by trade, Alec also worked in fishing and lumbering, as many did during that time. He had a love for Gaelic songs, which he often shared informally with visitors or when out in the community. Alec passed away in October 1987 and was laid to rest in MacLeod’s Cemetery, West Bay.
