Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography

Alec Dan MacLellan was born April 1906 to Angus Y. MacLellan and Margaret MacDougall, descendants of settlers from Morar. He grew up on Margaree Island, where his father, a renowned bard, served as the lighthouse keeper. Alec Dan was one of eight siblings: Peggy, James, Murdock, Lauranna, Flora Ann, Duncan, and Thompson. A video of his brother Duncan sharing recollections of their lives growing up on Margaree Island can be found in the YouTube series Recording Our Gaelic Heritage.

Alec Dan worked as a fisherman in Broad Cove and later in Inverness and took great pride in his boat, the Paula Pauline. He is fondly remembered as a kind and considerate neighbor and friend, a true gentleman whose presence enriched the lives of those around him.
