Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography

Roderick (Roddie) John MacInnis was born on November 29, 1910, in Kingsville, Nova Scotia. Roddie married Margaret Catherine MacIntyre and spent his life in Kingsville, where he became a remarkable Gaelic singer and bearer of local traditions.

Known for his enthusiasm and love of music, Roddie had an exceptional memory for older local Gaelic songs, many of which are now considered rare. A warm and light-hearted man, he would often greet visitors with a cheerful call to sing even before they had stepped through the door.

Roddie frequently sang songs composed by his uncle, Donald, and carried forward the musical legacy of his family. His great-grandfather, Donald, and second great-grandfather, John the Pioneer MacInnis, emigrated from Moidart, Scotland, to Creignish.

Roddie passed away on May 24, 2005 at the age of 94. He is remembered as a fine singer, comical, kind, and deeply connected to his Gaelic heritage.

Rugadh Rodaidh Ailig Ruairidh Dhòmhnaill Iain ann am Bràigh na h-Aibhneadh far a robh e `na thuathanach fad a shaoghail. `S ann à Mùideart a thànaig a chuideachd. `S e òranaiche beothail, togarrach a bh’ ann an Rodaidh. `Na fhìor dheagh fhear an taighe, bha e-fhéin cho déidheil air gabhail nan òran am measg cuideachd, cha bu mhór nach biodh e 'g éigheachd, “Gabh òran!” gun sinn-ne ach leth-chas astaigh air dorust a’ phoirde.
