Eachdraidh-bheatha | Biography
Daniel Alexander “Danny Alec” MacInnis was a lifelong bachelor from Castle Bay, Cape Breton County. Born October 27, 1896, he was the son of Alex N. MacInnis of Christmas Island and Catherine “Katie” MacNeil of Benacadie Glen. His father served as both Postmaster and Justice of the Peace in Castle Bay.
Danny Alec’s grandfather Neil MacInnis came to Castle Bay from Barra, Scotland in 1817 when he was just 5 years old. These MacInnises were known as the “Saoir” (Carpenters) as they were shipwrights and they used to work at their trade in Glasgow and in other parts of Scotland.
Danny Alec grew up in a home where other singers and visitors frequently gathered for songs, company, and conversation.
