Philip “Round Lake” MacDonald (Philip Donald Sandy) was born September 27, 1907 in Gabarus Lake, Cape Breton County. He was descended from emigrants from North Uist. Philip made a living fishing and working in the woods when he was young, and kept a small farm in later years. Philip was a well known singer, along with his brother Angus, and often entertained at milling tables with funny songs, often ones he had made himself. In later years he married Margaret MacLeod. Philip died on June 23, 1995 and is laid to rest in Zion Cemetery, Gabarus Lake.
