Annie Mae Gillis (Annie Mae ni’n Sheonaidh Bhig ‘ic Alasdair) was born in Blackstone, near Mabou in Inverness County. She was the daughter of John MacIsaac “Seonaidh Beag.” Her grandfather, Alexander MacIsaac, came to Inverness County from the Isle of Canna. Annie Mae married Alex Gillis of Margaree and they had two daughters, Mary Irene and Pearline.

Annie Mae was known for being a generous neighbour, offering help to those in need. She enjoyed baking, visitors and playing the violin. There is just one recording from her in the Collection, a short story titled ‘A’ Ghobhar Ghlas’ | The Grey Goat.
