James Alexander "Jimmy" Collins hailed from Scotsville, Inverness County, on what is now known as Lakeview Drive. His home sat on a picturesque hillside of farmland, overlooking the Margaree River and Lake Ainslie. His family originally came to Southwest Margaree, Cape Breton, from Tipperary, Ireland, in 1816. He was one of six children born to Angus and Mary Belle (MacFarlane) Collins. Angus' mother, Flora (née MacLellan) lived to be 109.Jimmy was truly one of a kind, a character through and through. Tall and lean, he delighted the local children and neighbors with his sharp wit and quirky observations. He had a unique gift for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary, keeping those around him constantly entertained. Curious and inquisitive, Jimmy was known for always asking questions, keeping everyone on their toes.Over his life, Jimmy held various jobs. He tended a small farm, worked for Irving Oil in Dartmouth, and spent time as a school teacher in Kiltarlity. Stories of Jimmy’s humor and charm continue to be shared in the homes and hearts of Scotsville families, preserving his memory for generations to come.
