Eóghann Aonghais Chrìsdein

Hugh John Chisholm was born October 4, 1906 in Glendale, Inverness County, to Angus and Margaret Jane (MacEachen) Chisholm. His Chisholm ancestors hailed from Strathglass, Scotland. His grandfather, Christopher Chisholm, originally from Meadow Green, Antigonish County, purchased 200 acres in Glendale, where the Chisholm family continues to reside today.

Hughie was a hardworking farmer and lumberman. As a young man, he spent time lumbering in New York State before moving to Detroit, where he worked for the Ford Motor Company. Eventually, he returned home to Glendale, where he married Margaret Jane MacEachen, and together they raised a family of five.

A devoted member of St. Mary of the Angels Parish, Hughie was well known for his storytelling, sharp memory, and deep knowledge of history and genealogy. His recollections and tales kept the past alive for his community, making him a valued tradition bearer in the area.
