Murdoch Morrison
Biography
"MURDOCH MORRISON, the son of Kenneth Morrison (Coinneach Bàn Iain 'ic Fhionnlaigh) and Margaret MacCuspic (Mairghread nighean Iain 'ic Chaluim) was born at Bernera, Harris, in 1842. When he was about nine months old, the family emigrated to Cape Breton Island, and settled at Ferguson's Lake, where has ever since been the bard's home. When he was about thirty-three years of age, he married Christine Ferguson, daughter of Angus Ferguson (Aonghas Og). Murdoch went on to become a well-known bard, and his poetry was published in 1931 in a collection titled Òrain Ruinn is Cladaich | Gaelic Poems and Songs by Murdoch Morrison.
He moved to Alexandra St. in Sydney. Morrison was remembered as a strong Liberal. Another of his songs appears in Beyond the Hebrides.
He passed away in 1940 and is laid to rest in the Ferguson’s Lake Cemetery.
