Biography

Aonghas mac Alasdair Ruaidh | Angus MacDonald

Aonghas mac Alasdair was born in Mabou in 1817, shortly after his MacDonald family arrived from Lochaber in Scotland. He was a great friend of the bard Allan the Ridge, and he himself was to become an accomplished Gaelic poet. His songs deal mostly with local events of the time, such as Temperance attempts to curb liquor consumption, relations between different groups of settlers and hardships endured during the lean years of blight in the 1840s.
