Notes 1John MacDougall of Broad Cove Banks, who was himself a good poet, came one day to Mr. McLellan's forge, with a plough to be repaired. The blacksmith was at the time engaged in fixing a plough for one McCormach. McDougall said he would compose a satire for the plough that detained him; whereupon the blacksmith said he would compose a song in its praise.
Notes 2Donald Gobha was born in Glenelg, Morar, Scotland on April 3rd 1807. He emigrated to Nova Scotia with his father in 1819. They settled at the South West River, Margaree.
