"1823? Donald MacDonald, Angus Bàn's son in Arisaig (N.S.) built a boat. A few days afterwards he himself and 4 s, 2 MacDonalds, John Campbell, MacDougall, sailed from Arisaig in the new boat for Pictou. That night a storm arose and they were all lost. On the following day the boat was seen drifting towards the shore conveying to his friends the corpse of young MacDonald." |
Notes 3 |
A note in Bàrdachd à Albainn Nuaidh suggests that this song was in fact composed by Dùghall Mac Eacharna, 'Dùghall Breac'. He was born in Tiree in 1789 and emigrated to Antigonish around 1820 where he worked as a school master. He moved again to Boston in 1871 and died there in 1880. He was a relative of the Bard MacLean. |
