"The first settlers in Pictou County were six families who came from Maryland in 1767. It was in 1773 that the Highlanders from Lochbroom arrived in the ship Hector. "Maighstir Seumas," Dr. McGregor, came in 1786. The first Gaelic-speaking ministers educated in Pictou Academy under Dr. McCulloch were, the Revs. Angus McGillivray, Hugh Ross, and Hugh Dunbar. Mr McGillivray was ordained in 1824, and died in 1869." |
