Notes 1 |
According to her obituary in The Casket, Allan’s mother Mary died on 31 May 1860, at 97 years of age. She survived her husband Alasdair Ruadh by about thirty years and this prolonged widowhood may have inspired her son’s teasing. The character in the song is the supposed suitor of the poet’s widowed mother. |
