Notes 1 "A Ms. Ahearn ran boarding house in Sydney at what is now 90 Esplanade."
Notes 2 "For part of the summer of 1831 there boarded in this house a family of Highland immigrants fresh from the old sod. The head of the family, a poet of no mean ability, related some of his experiences there in a lenghty poem, of which the verses following are a fragment.
